Sparke Helmore is a national law firm which has grown from a single office in Newcastle, established in 1882. The firm is staffed by over 680 people including 57 partners, 22 special counsel, and over 200 lawyers and law clerks.
The firm has sustained solid and consistent expansion with an average growth rate of 19% over the last ten years. Over the past four years we have doubled in size and now have offices in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth, Sydney and the Upper Hunter. Our expansion decisions are linked to the evolving needs of our clients, ensuring they receive an optimal level of service which assists them in meeting their own business objectives.
National integration Sparke Helmore is one of only a few firms in Australia that operates as a truly integrated national partnership rather than a state-by-state federated entity. Consistent with our strategic approach to growth, our expansion has been based upon transferring key people from our established offices rather than by merger or acquisition.
Our 'one firm' approach has enabled us to develop consistent standards, a distinctive culture and engender stability within our partnership. This offers tangible benefits to our clients in ensuring a continuity of seamless quality service, regardless of location, facilitated by an extensive integrated technology and communication network.
Specialisation We focus in three specific areas: Government, Insurance and Business. We understand our clients operate in different industries, each with particular characteristics, environments, cycles and needs, and have distinct legal requirements. We therefore maintain specialist teams focused on key technical areas which enable us to deliver a depth of expertise tailored to our clients' specific needs.
Consistent with our 'one firm' approach, our specialist teams operate nationally to ensure that clients whose needs extend beyond one state receive the benefits of legal services which address both local and national issues.
Our lawyers are also active in a range of industry organisations and committees with a view to contributing towards collective industry knowledge and development. This results in our clients receiving the benefit of current knowledge about legal risks relevant to their business, and a legal service which addresses their specific industry requirements.
